While currently working with adults and after many years of working with at risk children and teens, I have realized that communication is a big key to helping them work through their issues. There are many times when they want to say something, but instead of using words to describe what they are feeling, they use actions. I think the environment plays a big part in this; there are too many media outlets that promote violence and aggressive behavior, and that definitely leads to some of these actions that many teens decide to model.
Through the use of short-term therapy, I work with youths and their families to help rebuild the shattered relationship. Whether a small child or a teenager, I will work with them on improving their ability to express their thoughts, needs and desires in a positive manner. Ineffective communication can lead to much difficulties and stress within all areas of life, and part of the therapy sessions will work on cognitive behavioral techniques to change the client's behavior and communication in a positive fashion.
Throughout many years as a therapist I have worked with children of all ages, genders and ethnicities and helped them improve their relationship with their peers and their families. In addition, I have also led over a hundred social skills groups geared to children of all ages, developmental and educational levels. I utilize cognitive behavioral techniques in addition to combining other therapy practices to help the child/youth fix their relationship with their parents/family/peers, etc.
I look forward to meeting with you and working towards helping rebuild and strengthen your family.
